1981 Stephens 85 Custom Aluminum Skylounge

Built by Stephens to a uniquely efficient Jack Hargrave design, she was redesigned by John Anderson to enhance her on board spaces, integrating a NEW custom enclosed skylounge to maximize her bridge-level VIEWS. This special refit also included NEW CAT 1440-hp power package with transmissions and electronic controls, NEW bow and stern thrusters, NEW gensets and inverter, all NEW interior woodwork and more. 

A later refit enclosed the CALIFORNIA DECK and extended her COCKPIT by 10' to create easy and spacious water-level access points. This professional customization also included mechanical upgrades of shafts, struts, props, ETC. A custom BBQ on stern with 2 live tanks  was added, along with an upper TENDER DECK with 3500-lb davit, plus a new watermaker, fresh interior coverings and carpet. All refit work was professionally done by Townsend Bay Marine in Port Townsend, WA.

Sleeps (6) owners and guests in three double staterooms; three enclosed heads with separate stall showers. LAYOUT FROM FORWARD: Forepeak is followed by the FORWARD GUEST STATEROOM, with queen berth offset to starboard; built-in bureau and cedar-lined hanging locker opposite; opening overhead hatch plus a portlight at each side; privacy door aft; and ensuite FORWARD GUEST HEAD with separate stall shower situated aft to starboard. Next aft is the landing with curved stairwell to abovedecks.

Amidships belowdecks is the large ENGINEROOM. Aft staterooms are reached via near-centerline steps from abovedecks, leading aft and down into the AFT COMPANIONWAY. To port finds the AFT GUEST STATEROOM, offering side-by-side single berths situated athwartships; built-in seat; dual cedar-lined hanging lockers; inboard privacy door; and easy access across the companionway to the starboard side AFT GUEST HEAD with separate stall shower. Also from this companionway and forward to starboard is the ship's dedicated linen locker.

Finally aft is the FULL-WIDTH AFT MASTER SUITE, featuring an island berth situated aft with Travertine-topped nightstands at each side; private COCKPIT ACCESS DOOR aft; Travertine-topped built-in dresser and storage; large cedar-lined wardrobe forward to port; and private ensuite MASTER HEAD with separate stall shower situated forward to starboard.

MAIN DECK LEVEL is accessed via the ENCLOSED CALIFORNIA DECK, which is a special gathering place for dining and entertaining, with wrap around windows, heat/climate control, wet bar areas with storage and a full size dining table to seat up to (12) for meals. Forward is a stairwell to the SKYLOUNGE, plus wing doors to either SIDE DECK. Open floorplan on the main deck level places the GALLEY aft and to port, with an island that separates the SALON. Triple leather bar seating at the island faces the galley; forward settee seating group is well placed to enjoy the views and entertainment systems. ABOVE is the unique SKYLOUNGE, offering commanding views for the helmsman; triple Stidd helm seats mounted forward; luxury upholstered raised bench seating with hi-lo table; and storage plus chart table aft.

INTERIOR features are all top-of-the-line and designed for ultimate comfort and ease of maintenance, including electronically-controlled Manhatten honeycomb blinds; track-installed Magilite headliner; Elbex closed circuit TV system; Avaya PBX exchange 6-station intercom/phone system with dial tones via cell or satellite; (3) Stidd Series 500 helmseats; Aqua Air reverse cycle hydronic heat & air conditioning system; (4) Sea Land VacuFlush heads; and heated towel racks plus heated sole in all heads.

SHORE POWER INLETS include port and starboard 50-amp/240v aft, which are routed thru isolation transformers and boosters to the main AC panel to allow for up to two shore power cords to be used concurrently (one port and one starboard); plus rafting outlets. Port and starboard 50-amp/240v inlets are also forward; and port and starboard 30-amp/120v are aft and forward. Glendenning shore cord retractors.

BATTERIES include (6) each Northstar NSB210 AGM 24vDC main engine start; (12) each Northstar NSB210 AGM 24vDC house batteries. (2) Outback FX2524MT inverter/chargers in the lazarette for additional house bank charging. The main engine starting batteries and the house batteries are connected through a Heart Pathmaker. 24vDC Pilothouse bank is (4) each Northstar NSB210 AGM charged by the 95-amp Newmar PT-24-95F battery charger and the Prosine 1000 watt inverter.


GROUND TACKLE includes a 210-lb. SST polished Sabre main anchor with approximately 600' of 1/2" 6X25 IWRC SSYT wire rope and 90' of 1/2" SST anchor chain; SST swivel; Smith Bros Foundry and Machine Works hydraulic anchor windlass with 21" drum rated at 1240 lbs pull at 1/2 full 1000 PSI; Ideal Model B vertical capstan windlass rated at 1000 lbs; (2) vertical capstans aft; and Smith Brothers emergency anchor retrieval system.
