ROBIN was built as a working tug, one of the few with full towing/pusher diesel power. She was originally in service in Priest Lake and Priest River, Idaho, then moved to the Puget Sound near Tacoma and has served successfully generating $$6-DIGIT annual incomes for her owner-operator. ROBIN has handled many different types of barges up to 300', dock and bulkhead construction service with her shallow draft, and vessel handling, and a regular competitor in the annual Olympia Tugboat Races, "HARBOR DAYS."
The 26' CROSBY Tug is extremely versatile with a hull molded to the stringent specifications of a rugged workboat, yet pleasing lines. The hull is deep and provides a stable bed for the engine, located mid-ship below the pilothouse, with large hatch access for maintenance, and allowing for an efficient shaft angle and clear, open cockpit working area.
The pilothouse, constructed of top-quality materials, is neatly fitted to the hull and provides excellent, visibility. Sliding pilothouse doors are located both Port and Starboard and are accented with classic brass grab rails. Great (almost) 360-degree visibility.
The steering station is located to Starboard with classic, wood-spoked ships wheel, Morse cable steering system, and Morse cable engine controls. A PERKINS Engine instrument panel with key start, and gauges for RPM, Ammeter, Oil Pressure and Oil Temperature. There is a full cabin width seat aft in the wheelhouse that is convertible to a double bed, supported by the two pedestal Captain's chairs. A small classic (Dickenson type) marine diesel heater is mounted above the seat on the aft bulkhead in the Port corner of the Pilothouse.
Forward from the PH and down 4 steps is the forward cabin and V-Berths for 2 crewmembers. To Starboard is stowage rack holding a portable-type Refrigerator, and the Port-a-Potty.
The hull is well protected with good quality D-Rubber at the gunwale and about a foot below for good protection for mooring and side tows, an attractive "Bow Puddin" is attached for protection and pushing various barges or vessel assist. Forward at the bow is the manual Windlass, and Danforth type anchor with adequate rode stowed below deck. There are adequate mooring and towing bits at the bow, along both Port and Starboard sides and a large towing bit on the aft deck. A Freeman aluminum hatch on the aft deck provides access to the shaft log and bearing and the steering cable, and rudder post.
Note- The Pusher Knees have been removed that you may see in the photographs, replaced by sturdy D-Rubber and Bow "Puddin."
This is a very well thought out and simple to maintain Working Tug that will earn her keep for many years into the future. The Perkins engine was fully rebuilt just prior to the present owners purchase in 2002. Note the tug was out of service for approximately 8 years during ownership period preserving the total time on the Main Engine. The engine starts immediately, and no smoke is visible from the dry-stack on a Cold Start.
There is extensive parts and equipment that will be transferred to her Buyer, and includes 2 spare Props, 28" x 17" and 28"x 16". ROBIN sports a pair of brass KAHLENBERG "trumpets" that will announce her presence like a Steam Ship in any harbor!! A SPECTACULAR antique, US NAVY "NEVEROUT" PROJECTOR, brass and copper 10" searchlight is atop the pilothouse for night operations. The mast carries the proper navigational and towing lights for night operations. Her port and starboard navigation lights are antique brass and fully operational. This is a CLASSY TUG!!
